DEAR FELLOW CONQUERORS:

Every day at the Conquer Cancer Foundation you inspire us to take on some very big “what ifs.”

What if we could create a world free from the fear of cancer? What if, more and more, cancer was understood as a chronic health condition that could be managed? What if every physician and every patient, everywhere, had access to the best information and the best quality of care? What if we could engage even more people to join our mission to conquer cancer?

I’m pleased to report that in 2014, thanks to your generous involvement, we made substantial progress on answering many of these pressing “what if” questions.

In terms of your support, last year was a record-breaking year for the Conquer Cancer Foundation. In all, our donors contributed over $37 million, which tells all of us that our mission is resonating with our friends and donors.

Thanks to you, CCF was able to fund a record 57 Young Investigator Awards for promising physician-scientists who are the future of life-changing cancer research across the country and the globe. As you know, CCF was founded by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), which celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2014. We can’t imagine a more fitting tribute to our founding organization than increasing our support for the researchers who are the future of oncology discovery.

Among the many CCF accomplishments your gifts supported in 2014 were the five International Innovation Grants to fund novel and innovative projects in low- and middle-income countries. Your gifts also helped forward ASCO’s CancerLinQ™, a groundbreaking health information technology platform that will harness Big Data to provide high-quality feedback and clinical decision support to doctors. The first version of CancerLinQ™ is scheduled for release later this year, opening doors to dramatically enhanced patient care.

We’re also thinking big when it comes to the impact of the Conquer Cancer Foundation.  In 2014, we made important strides to expand our capabilities so that, with your help, we can continue to seek answers to the core questions that drive all of us to conquer cancer. Look for exciting news about this outreach coming later this spring, along with more stories about what you make possible through your generosity.

As always, we thank you for your critical and committed support.

Together we are conquering cancer.

Very Truly Yours,

W. Charles Penley, MD, FASCO
