ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation is pleased to announce Clinton Yam, MD, as the recipient of the 2020 Fairman Career Development Award (CDA).  Dr. Yam’s research will focus on identifying novel immune markers to predict response to treatment and identifying if tumor response is influenced by gut microbiota, which will allow for development of less toxic and more effective personalized approaches to treating patients with triple-negative breast cancer.

The CDA is a three-year, $200,000 grant that provides funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment and are as working to establish independent clinical cancer research programs. A CDA recipient’s research must have a patient-oriented focus, including a clinical research study and/or translational research involving human subjects.

In 2018, Dr. Yam was the recipient of the 2018 Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Research Fellowship for his research project, “Role of the PI3K pathway in promoting immune evasion and resistance to systemic therapy in triple negative breast cancer.” He is an assistant professor, Department of Breast Medical Oncology, Division of Cancer Medicine, at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The 2020 Fairman Career Development Award is supported by Fleur Fairman.
