Conquer Cancer updates mission, vision; adopts values inspired by its donors

Conquer Cancer's mission statement, vision statement, and core values.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - To underscore its commitment to scale and grow cancer research funding and to align more closely with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), today Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, updated its mission and vision.

Mission: Accelerate breakthroughs in lifesaving research and empower people everywhere to conquer cancer.

Vision: A world where cancer is prevented or cured, and every survivor is healthy.

“These are bold declarations, and we did not land on them lightly,” said Howard A. Burris III, MD, FACP, FASCO, chair, Conquer Cancer Board of Directors. “The continued commitment of Conquer Cancer donors in support of our critical work allowed us to adopt them confidently.”

The vision selected by Conquer Cancer is the same charge guiding ASCO, the world's leading professional organization for physicians and oncology professionals caring for people with cancer.

“By funding research and programs while enabling oncology professionals to access and share vital information, we work in support of ASCO and its members to improve care for every cancer and every patient,” said Dr. Burris. “As it is for ASCO and its members, this vision is the hope of every Conquer Cancer donor.”

Conquer Cancer also established values to direct the organization’s work: People. Discovery. Impact.

“These principles are our driving force,” said Dr. Burris. “Conquer Cancer donors want to make an impact in the lives of every person who is conquering cancer and believe the way to do that is to accelerate clinical research.”

Since 1984, Conquer Cancer donors have given more than $450 million to fund research, education, and quality programs.
