A Letter from a Doctor to her Patient

Cain, a 12-year-old patient with Ewing sarcoma, wearing a hospital gown and facing forward
As your journey continues, my wish for you is that we find a cure so you can finally stop chemo!

For more than half his life, Cain Wilson, now 12, has been conquering Ewing sarcoma, a cancer that most often occurs in and around the bones. His doctor, Conquer Cancer researcher Jaime Libes, MD, shares a letter she wrote to Cain during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Dear Cain,

Conquering cancer is not easy for any patient, but for kids it makes living a normal childhood a challenge.  That is why I am so proud of you for continuing to fight cancer for so long, while also trying to live your best life by continuing your fun hunting trips, doing well in school, and doing normal kid stuff. You inspire me with your positive attitude and how optimistic you are.

I want all patients to know how important it is to try to stay positive and know how strong you all are. As your journey continues, my wish for you is that we find a cure so you can finally stop chemo!

Warm wishes,

Dr. Libes
