An Evening to Conquer Cancer, the annual fundraising dinner hosted by Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, earned a record $1,002,213* to fund global research for every type of cancer.

Through donations, sponsorships, and a silent auction the dinner raised enough funds to grants the equivalent of 17 Young Investigator Awards (YIA).

More than 350 guests attended the dinner, held Saturday June 1 at the Loews Chicago Hotel. The dinner was led by co-chairs Thomas G. Roberts, Jr., MD, FASCO, chair, Conquer Cancer Board of Directors and managing member, Farallon Capital Management, LLC, and Greg Parekh, PhD, governor, CancerLinQ, and founder and managing partner, New Rhein Healthcare Investors, LLC. Featured speakers included Mark A. Applebaum, MD, 2016 YIA recipient and Brandy Raffin, mother of Bella Raffin, a 10-year-old neuroblastoma survivor and patient of Dr. Applebaum's.

Dr. Applebaum shared with guests, “I firmly believe the Conquer Cancer YIA was one of the key reasons I’ve received additional grants to continue working in the lab. It’s an endorsement that tells other organizations: He’s worth the investment, this researcher’s ideas matter.” He went on to share, “Without [funding], I may not have had the privilege to help so many amazing children and their families.”
