Hershman, MD, MS, FASCO is the Hologic, Inc Endowed Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award recipient and  Lillian L. Siu, MD, FRCPC, FASCO, is the International Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award recipient.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2020 ASCO Annual Meeting Merit Awards.

These distinguished awards support oncology trainees who are first authors on abstracts selected for presentation at the ASCO Annual Meeting. This year, Conquer Cancer will recognize 104 recipients with Merit Awards. These oncology professionals are recognized for their respective field and research advancements within the cancer care community.

The Conquer Cancer Council (CCC) is a group of for-profit and non-profit organizations committed to improving cancer care in their communities. In this Q&A series, leaders share how uniting with oncology leaders helps advance efforts to conquer cancer.

All of healthcare is being impacted by Coronavirus. What will this mean for cancer?

It’s wedding day. A father with colorectal cancer walks his daughter down the aisle. His oncologist, Rona Yaeger, MD, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, helps him mark this milestone.

Currently, patients with BRAF-mutant colorectal cancers face a poor prognosis. Dr. Yaeger and her team work to develop targeted combination therapies to treat patients with this molecular alteration in their tumors. A Conquer Cancer grant connected Dr. Yaeger with the resources needed to address this difficult-to-treat disease and help patients heal.
